Irland Tour
Den Circuit of Ireland ( Circuit of Ireland rally , eller i daglig tale Circuit ) er en årlig konkurrence rallybil på asfalt kæmpede primært i Ulster (start og slut), og i Irland , med over firs års eksistens.
Historie
Det er en af de ældste samlinger i verden, hvis tilrettelæggelse af de specielle etaper blev inspireret af Rallye Monte-Carlo . Det er organiseret af Ulster Automobile Club .
I 1936 krydsede hans rejse hele Irland i mere end 1.740 km i fem dage og gav sit endelige navn til begivenheden (afgang og ankomst til Bangor ). Ronnie Adams vandt dette løb i 1936, derefter som en co-driver. Han deltog i i alt 15 udgaver uden nogensinde at give op, ivrig efter at fuldføre sin allerførste konkurrence der i 1963 i en alder af 47 år.
I flere år var dette rally på asfalt det længste i verden og tiltrak kendte piloter som Henri Toivonen , Hannu Mikkola eller Pentti Airikkala (vinder i 1979, den eneste ikke-britiske pilot til dato). Jimmy McRae (far til Colin , også vinder i 1991) vandt den 7 gange i 1980'erne (1980, 1981, 1982, 1985, 1987, 1988 og 1989), Paddy Hopkirk 5 gange tidligere (1958, 1961, 1962, 1965 og 1967 ) samt hans landsmand Derek McGarrity for nylig (2003, 2004, 2005, 2010 og 2011).
Begivenheden blev suspenderet seks gange, inklusive 1948 (benzin rationeret i slutningen af krigen), 1953 ( Suez-krisen ), 1972, 2000-01 ( mund- og klovesygeepidemi ) og 2007 (uenighed mellem arrangører og sponsorer, erstatning af Easter International Rally på et forkortet kursus på 12 specialetaper).
Nu finder det sted over to dage (traditionelt til påskehelgen ) på vejafsnit. Det blev optaget i det europæiske rallymesterskab mellem 1979 og 1984 og i Intercontinental Rally Challenge i det sidste år af dette mesterskab i 2012.
Det tæller for den britiske (BRC) og irsk (Irland Grus) mesterskaber, og blev ikke valgt i 2013 for en genindførelse i EM på grund af en manglende organisatoriske midler (rally af De Kanariske Øer har ham blev således foretrukket).
